Email List Building – Quality Vs Quantity

Email list building

In yesterday’s post I gave you a simple way to put a contact form on your blog so you could start building your list by collecting subscribers. There is more for you to do than just put up a form though. When you first start to build your list you might be thinking that quantity matters, because isn’t that what all the gurus have; massive lists?

Well yes there are many Internet marketing ‘gurus’ who have tens of thousands of subscribers. Thinking you need a list that big could halt your progress as it can take a long time, a lot of money and many joint ventures to create a massive list. There are ways to buy hundreds of email leads but often they are useless to you as the lead is what could be referred to as ‘unqualified’. Sure you’ll find people saying they have ‘qualified’ leads in your specific niche but be wary, these schemes can be costly for little return.

So when it comes to email list building, rather than thinking in terms of quantity think about quality. A subscriber who is very interested in you, your blog, your products and your niche generally is a great subscriber to have. A lead who once entered a survey and ticked they liked animals is not necessarily going to be a quality subscriber for say your dog training niche; who knows if they even have a dog! So that’s the difference you could be dealing with between a qualified lead and an unqualified lead.

So entice your readers of your blog with lots of interesting quality content and they’ll visit often. When you put up your contact/subscriber form they are very likely to want to be on your list. When you do get your first few subscribers you’ll be very excited, but how exactly do you entice your readers to fill in the form, why would they give you their email address? I’ll talk a little bit about that in the posts I write over the coming days.
