Build A List With Freebies

Build a list

If you’re trying to build a list of subscribers then you’ll no doubt have realised that simply giving them a place to put in their name and email address isn’t going to drive a ton of sign ups. You need to of course give the subscriber something in return for their email address. There’s nothing to say you must give something away for free but I would strongly recommend it. Who doesn’t like getting something for free? A freebie for a simple exchange of an email address can be very enticing for your readers; sounds easy doesn’t it? Well don’t think that just ’cause your report or newsletter etc is free that people will sign up.

You need to ensure that the potential subscriber can see that the chance of them wasting their time on filling out your form and reading your freebie is low. You need to reassure them them that they will receive something of value and that they will get answers to something of interest to them and they won’t be disappointed.

With a simple subscriber form that I’ve discussed in an earlier post it’s a matter of putting an enticing headline at the top of your form. An interesting and intriguing headline is one method, a big promise is another and a ridiculous scenario is yet another. Here is an example of a successful headline that I use on one of my opt-in forms.

The headline you choose will depend of course on what it is you’re giving away to your subscribers. Don’t stress too much about the headline of your form though, you can change it any time you need and with advanced subscriber programs you can even test which headlines get you the most subscribers.

So now is the time to start thinking of a valuable freebie that you can offer your visitors in exchange for their email address so you can build a list. What are some of your reader’s problems and can you give them a top ten list of things to do to address it? Think through what they’re searching for and how you can help answer some of their most pressing questions in a free report, ebook or email series. Are you stuck for content? Hate writing? Don’t think your English and grammar is good enough? Then never fear; in the future I’ll be sure to cover off how you can easily resolve some of  these concerns you have.
